NEWS BRIEF

Fireworks spark more than oohs and ahhs

July 2, 2008 On Independence Day in a typical year, more U.S. fires are reported than on any other day, and fireworks account for half of those fires, more than any other cause of fires.*  Rocky Mountain residents need to be prepared both in terms of insurance and property mitigation when it comes to protecting their homes from fire.

Association of Contingency Planners, Colorado Chapter
BUSINESS PREPAREDNESS – DNC 2008

Does your business know what to expect during the DNC?
Do you have a plan for responding to potential business interruptions? The Association of Contingency Planners (ACP) Colorado Rocky Mountain Chapter (CRMC) will offer a FREE webinar entitled Business Preparedness – Democratic National Convention 2008. This educational workshop will present "all-hazards" business continuity planning concepts as well as specific preparedness topics within the context of the 2008 Democratic National Convention.*

During this hour long session, ACP-CRMC members will share their knowledge and professional experience to help you determine what information to include in your business continuity plan.
Discussion topics will also help you consider the potential risks that are associated with a large scale special event such as the DNC. Discussion topics will include possible event scenarios such as:

  • Transportation disruptions: How might the event affect your employees’ ability to get to work? Will there be an impact to your customers’ accessibility to your business?
  • Communication systems interruptions: How will you provide service to your customers if telephone and internet services are overloaded? How will you coordinate with your employees
    and vendors?
  • Employee relations issues: How will you handle unplanned employee absences or tardiness? What will you do if an employee leaves for lunch and doesn’t return?
  • Safety and security concerns: Have you developed a physical security plan? How do you shelter-in-place? Have you worked with your building manager to coordinate planning and response?

Seminar Dates:

Tuesday, July 1 11:00am – 12:00pm
Wednesday, July 2 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Tuesday, July 8 11:00am – 12:00pm
Wednesday, July 9 9:00am – 10:00am

Please contact John Hsin, ACP-CRMC Education and Seminars Director, at education@crmc-acp.org to register for your preferred seminar. You will receive a return confirmation with information on
